Take a look at a coloured map of Ontario – a road map will do. Go ahead, do it! If you don’t have one the resources section of this website has a link to a site where you can order one online. A significant portion of this province is covered by fresh water in lakes and rivers, and virtually all of those fresh water bodies contain fish in an astonishing variety of diverse shapes, sizes, colours and species.
Why Does This Blog Exist?
The mission of this blog is to provide local anglers and visitors with detailed information about where to find great places to fish in Southern Ontario using one of just two forms of locomotion; the foot Falcon (i.e. walking or wading) and the kayak (which may include canoes, pontoon boats, small rowboats and maybe even float tubes if you wish). If you have a 200 hp bass boat and want to find a place to launch it you’ll have to locate that information somewhere else. It’s not my bag. Likewise, I quickly decided not to cover Northern Ontario as the subject of this blog as it would simply be biting off too much to chew. Southern Ontario will be quite enough, thank you very much, as I’m sure my long-suffering spouse will attest.
I’m an enthusiastic and interested angler but I’m no expert in biology, entemology, or any of the other arcane subjects that drive some people. I must confess I don’t even tie my own flies. But I do know some great places to kayak fish and fly fish, and I’m going to tell you exactly how to get to them. In addition, I’m inviting you and others like you to describe your favourite spots as guest contributors. I have personally visited most of the fishing spots I’ve described here but not all of them. Some I’ve obtained from books, others from friends, and still others I’ve run across on the web. The objective here is to provide you with great places to kayak fish and fly fish, not to convince you that I’m some sort of fishing guru.
We’re All In This Together, People!
I guess I’m going to offend some people who want to keep their own secret fishing spots …. well, a secret, but I believe that we’re all better off with more people fishing and a more active fishery. If the information contained on this website enables a few local people to head out fishing who might not otherwise go, or encourages visitors to our wonderful province to try for the elusive big one, I’ll consider it a success.
Tight lines and may the wind be always at your back.
