Kayak Fishing Lake Ontario – Tommy Thompson Park

Location:  Downtown Toronto

Directions:  Exit from the southbound Don Valley Parkway at the south end where it turns into the Gardiner Expressway.  Stay in the left, yes left, lane and take the Lakeshore Blvd. exit.  Turn right at the first light, which is Lakeshore, then left at the next light, which is Cherry St. and continue south for about 1 km. to Cherry Beach, which is public.  From the eastbound Gardiner Expressway, exit on the Jarvis St. ramp, then turn left on to Jarvis St. and make an immediate right on to the Lakeshore, eastbound for about a km then right on Cherry St. and south to Cherry Beach.

Access:  Turn left into the parking area and park as close as you can to the beach.  The water’s edge where you launch your kayak is about 30 metres away across the beach.

Fishing method:  Kayak

What to expect:  Pike, perch, crappie, carp, + ???

Where to go:  Take your pick.  Directly in front of you is Tommy Thompson Park, which is also called the Leslie St. Spit.  We followed the shore easward a little ways, crossed the mouth of the marina area southwards to the abandoned lookout station, then south again across the mouth of the other marina to the park shoreline.  There’s a shallow sandbar along the shoreline that drops off a little ways out to about 15 ft. or so.

Comments:  With the CN Tower and the downtown Toronto skyline in the background TT Park affords some of the most picturesque urban scenery available while fishing anywhere.  A true photo op.  There’s a little food stand at the end of Cherry St. during the summer months that serves great hamburgers and other stuff so there’s no reason to starve.

Thanks for the support, Saurooon (whatever that is). I’ll keep adding new locations whenever I can but right now I’m too busy fishing!
