Great Places To Kayak Fish And Fly Fish In Southern Ontario

Fishing In Southern Ontario

Accommodation And Resorts

There are thousands of lakes and rivers in Southern Ontario.  Virtually every lake and a goodly number of the rivers host fishing resorts of one type or another, … but  I normally camp out.  I rarely stay in hotels, motels or resorts.  It’s not that I don’t like them, it’s just that the resorts seem to mainly cater to the powerboat crowd, which is not my interest.  As a consequence I have very little interest in them and if a resort is what you’re after I’m sure you can find one on your own.  Just before I wrote this I Googled, “fishing resorts in Southern Ontario”, and there were over 70,000 results returned.  I’m certain you can find one that suits you.

The Ontario Outdoor Adventure Guide

However, the Ontario government tourism department, in partnership with Nature & Outdoor Tourism Ontario and other private regional tourism organizations, produces an annual publication called “The Ontario Outdoor Adventure Guide” that contains descriptive advertisements for approximately 1,500 Ontario, mainly fishing, resorts.  You can obtain a free copy by contacting Ontario Tourism directly by telephone at 1-800-ONTARIO or on their website at http://www.ontariotravel.net/ .

I Do Mostly Day Trips

Because my central location in Toronto allows me to access virtually all of Southern Ontario in less than 4 hours I often just head out kayak fishing or fly fishing for the day, returning home in the evening if the site I’ve visited is fairly close.  If I do decide to stay and camp I have my trusty Backroad Map Book (see the Resources section) to help me select a campground, or I just Google “campgrounds in (… put the nearest town here …)” beforehand.

But that’s the beauty of living in a democracy …. everyone gets to do it their own way!

Tight lines,
